Hi! I’m Nicole—the maker and owner behind this small business. I began this business in 2023 as a full time graduate student working as an unpaid extern, but I recently graduated with my doctorate in Audiology! Although my time is mostly taken up by my new job, I have never stopped crocheting. This art form has provided me with such an amazing creative escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. I simply cannot imagine a world where I don't come home from work and pick up a hook!
It all began with my grandmother teaching me how to crochet one Superbowl Sunday when I was about 8 years old. I did not want to watch football, so this was her attempt to keep me quiet. I remember getting super frustrated, but nonetheless created by very first project: a scarf? Everybody has to start somewhere, but after this, I put down the hook for YEARS.
Then, in 2020 during COVID, I decided to pick up a hook again. I started by making Among Us characters (who were literally crocheted inside out...) and then moved on to hats and small plushies. A few years later, I was crocheting a hat in my graduate course, and my classmates encouraged me to sell my work. I was totally skeptical, but decided to try it out. I signed up for my first market, made a bunch of inventory, created my own website, and Fawn & Fern Crochet was born.
